I don’t think I have a problem with alcohol.  Mind you, nobody does do they?  I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, but I don’t have one every day.  When I do drink, it is often with food or for an occasion.  I’ve long grown out of going out with the whole intent being getting drunk.

JM has been teasing me because he says I have no willpower.  He is now almost 6 weeks into no drinking, and isn’t missing it at all. I went for a couple of weeks after New Year without having a drink, and then I was out for dinner one night and had a glass of wine.  He insists I made a resolution to not drink for six months, but I certainly don’t remember that!

So I have taken up the challenge!  Well, for the month of February anyway, I will not drink. I am doing it in a way that also raises funds that will be distributed to organisations that reduce the impacts of alcohol and other drug problems amongst young people.  Many other kiwis, including some high profile faces, will be doing the same thing.

FebFast challenges New Zealanders to forgo their alcohol consumption and at the same time raise funds to support programmes helping reduce alcohol and other drug related harms amongst young people.

Now this isn’t going to be easy.  We have quite a few events planned during February.  We are off to the Mission Vineyard Concert to sit in the sun for the day and listen to music.  This is usually a great event to enjoy a few glasses of wine.  We’ve also got at least one birthday to attend.  According to the Febfast rules, you can pay a “penalty payment” and opt out for a day to attend events – but I won’t be doing that.  I want to show JM I really do have some willpower.

And on that note, I’ve got a half bottle of wine in the refrigerator that needs to be finished before February 1st.  Might arrange a girlfriend to come and visit so we can polish it off.
